The Mike Vaz Domestic Violence Education & Prevention Fund
One in every four women will experience domestic violence according to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV). Unfortunately, Julie Treadwell, a mother of three, was in that twenty-five percent and senselessly lost her life on February 8, 2013. Michael Vaz, a friend of Treadwell, was also a victim in this tragic situation. In an attempt to protect Treadwell’s life, Vaz was critically injured and paralyzed from the neck down. Now, Vaz needs your help.
Our goal is to turn a negative situation into a positive one starting starting on March 23, 2013 with the The First Annual Mike Vaz Domestic Violence Awareness Fundraiser. Vaz, often regarded as one of the best athletes the City of Springfield has produced, has maintained his athletic reputation through the years by staying active. It’s fitting our first event be centered around the sport that he loved but also infuse it with educational aspects and awareness on domestic violence.
Please help us meet our goal of raising $10,000. Vaz has a long road to recovery and plans on walking, running, and playing basketball again. We can make that easier for him by contributing to his medical expenses. In addition, your donation will also contribute towards The Julie Treadwell Scholarship Fund, which will provide $1,000 towards the education of a deserving student that has overcome adversity.
Many businesses and community leaders are already on board. Consider being a part of the excitement by making a donation today! We look forward to seeing you March 23rd!!!
